E2O work with new half marathon to reduce environmental impacts

The John Austin Half is a new half marathon taking place on Sunday 13th March in Brockenhurst in the New Forest, in aid of the Oakhaven Hospice.  Kate Chapman, from Earth to Ocean, is working with the event organisers to manage and reduce the environmental impacts of the event. Kate has been looking at the impacts of the event in terms of waste, suppliers, transport and physical impacts on the sensitive habitat of the New Forest and is working closely with the event suppliers, supporters, local authority and Forestry Commission to help this new event leave a lighter footprint.

Earth to Ocean speaking at major marine planning conference

Earth to Ocean spoke at the Southern Marine Planning Conference, which took place at the City Cruise Terminal in Southampton on 30th September.  Susie Tomson presented on the subject of "Sharing the Water: Recreation and Marine Planning" as part of a wide ranging agenda covering all aspects of marine planning.

Speakers from a range of interests presented a variety of views on the proposed marine spatial planning system. The closing remarks were made by Stephen Brooker, Head of Marine Spatial Planning at the Marine Management Organisation. He highlighted the difficulty they were facing was that this topic is so new. However, many presentations showed similarities and lessons to be learnt from integrated coastal management, aggregate management and also marine protected area management around the world.

The Conference details can be found on the Solent Forum website www.solentforum.org.
