stakeholder engagement

Stakeholder engagement requires an organisation to listen to and take into account the concerns, priorities and objectives of all those who have an interest in the issue at hand. To move a project forward, implement organisational change or introduce a new policy, nowadays stakeholder engagement is often the key to success or failure.

The stakeholder engagement process starts with identifying the organisation's key stakeholders and then defining their characteristics (threat or collaboration potential, importance to organisation or project's survival, urgency of response, etc.) which will determine the type of relation the organisation will build with them.

Early, and frequent contact with stakeholders is vital to ensure that there are no nasty surprises later on in the consultation process.
